If you suffer from foot or ankle pain, there are many solutions your ARC Podiatrist may suggest including the use of orthotics. Orthotics are medical aids used to improve foot and ankle issues. Certain orthotics, such as foot inserts, may be purchased over the counter, though in some situations a one size fits all solution is not ideal and may even cause more harm than good, especially if you are diabetic. Talk to your ARC podiatrist before deciding which orthotics option is best for your needs.
Prescribed orthotics are best because they are completely customized based on your individual needs. Orthotics should not be worn for more than a few hours a day until you feel fully comfortable wearing them and the majority have a lifespan between five to 10 years. A new set of prescribed orthotics will be necessary if you outgrow them by either 1½ shoe sizes, undergo foot surgery, have arthritis in your feet, or experience any other developments in your foot health.
Reasons your doctor may prescribe you with orthotics include:
  • Foot Deformities (Flat-foot/Posterior Tibial Tendon Dysfunction (PTTD) and High Arch Feet)
  • Arch and Heel Pain (Plantar Fasciitis)
  • Diabetic Foot Ulcers
  • Lower Leg Tendonitis for Knee Pain or "Runner's Knee"
If you suffer from any of the above ailments, or suffer from foot pain in general, make an appointment with an ARC Podiatrist today.
